Round Table: Week 1

September 6, 2019 John Racioppo
Round Table - Week 1.jpg

The first week of rehearsal for Liba Vaynberg’s Round Table is in the books. A good portion of the week was spent working with fight choreographer and actor Craig Wesley Divino to lay the groundwork and physical vocabulary that will make up the many fight scenes in this play.

In this rehearsal update, Craig works with cast members Matthew Bovee and Sharina Martin on single broadsword combat sequences. Click the image above to check out the video!

Tickets are on sale now for our production of ROUND TABLE by Liba Vaynberg, directed by Geordie Broadwater running at 59E59 Theaters from Sept. 27 - Oct. 20.

Broadway Show League Champions

August 30, 2019 John Racioppo
The+Downtowners+Champs.jpg

After two hard fought games on the final day of the season, The Downtowners (Fault Line Theatre’s softball team in the Broadway Show League) defeated a very good Book of Mormon team to take the Lewin Division Championship!

Since 1955, the Broadway Show League has become a summer tradition that brings together the Broadway and Off-Broadway community every Thursday on the Heckscher Fields in Central Park. We are proud to sponsor the first ever team comprised entirely of folks from the downtown and independent theatre communities.: THE DOWNTOWNERS.

See you next summer!

What We're Seeing: The Fitzgeralds of St. Paul

August 21, 2019 John Racioppo
Fitzgeralds Poster.jpg

When we started Irons in the Fire in 2017, one of the first shows we knew we wanted to develop was Christie Baugher and Danny Mefford’s contemporary, two-hander musical The Fitzgeralds of St. Paul. First of all, the music is so darn good, but it was also such a unique perspective on one of American culture’s most famous couples. Now, it’s heading to Joe’s Pub at The Public Theater for a one-night-only concert performance. We’ll see you there!

A Little About The Show

Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s love takes center stage in this contemporary musical about two of American culture’s most timeless figures – and their tumultuous, storied marriage that seems ripped from the cover of today’s tabloids. Passed through the prism of Zelda -- one of history’s most complicated and misunderstood artists –The Fitzgeralds of St. Paul is the alcohol-soaked retelling of their infamous romance, giving audiences an imagined behind-the-scenes glimpse into their glamorous lifestyle, their mutually destructive co-dependency, their obsessions and their struggles with mental health.

What We're Seeing: At The Table

May 29, 2019 John Racioppo
At+The+Table+-+Road+Theatre.jpg

We were so thrilled to hear that Michael Perlman’s At The Table is getting yet another life on the West Coast. After we developed and premiered the play with Michael back in 2015 at HERE Arts in New York City, it went on to sell out to audiences in Chicago with Broken Nose Theatre, and now the The Road Theatre Company is bringing the show to Los Angeles. For 27 years, The Road Theatre Company has presented plays not previously available to the Los Angeles public that introduce socially and/or politically relevant voices and thoughts to the American stage. If you’re on the west coast, definitely check it out!

A Little About The Show

Six friends head out of the city on their annual weekend retreat. With no social media, no cell phones, no internet allowed at all, this leaves them with one thing to do… look up from their screens and talk to each other. When the liquor starts flowing and the tongues loosen, no conversation is uneventful and no topic is off-limits. In these polarizing times, what does it mean to come to the table and at what cost? Will it bring us together or reveal how far apart we really are?

Our friends (and fellow teammates on The Downtowners) at Wheelhouse Theater are back on stage after last year’s smash off-Broadway success Happy Birthday, Wanda June (starring our very own Craig Wesley Divino). For 4 weeks only, they’ll bring Aaron Posner’s Life Sucks to The Wild Project in the East Village. Wheelhouse Theater is one of our favorite companies in the city and we can’t wait to catch their latest work.

A Little About The Show

It’s Chekhov without the birch trees. After taking aim at The Seagull with his “explosive” Stupid F*cking Bird, Aaron Posner is back with an irreverent contemporary remix of Uncle Vanya. Egos clash, hearts hunger, and souls cry out for meaning in this raw and hilarious reimagining of Chekhov’s timeless classic, receiving its New York premiere by the red-hot Wheelhouse Theater, fresh off their 2018 hit revival of Happy Birthday, Wanda June.

Life staggers. Life confounds. Life is beautiful. And LIFE SUCKS.

What We're Seeing: Bathsheba's Psalms

March 27, 2019 John Racioppo
Bathshebas Psalms Banner.png

Last April, as a part of our first season of Irons in the Fire, we had the pleasure of developing April Ranger’s new play Bathsheba’s Psalms: Or a Woman of Unusual Beauty Taking a Bath. The workshop was directed by Christina Roussos and presented at West Park Presbyterian Church on the Upper West Side. It was a thrill to watch the creative team piece together and refine this beautiful re-imagining of the David and Bathsheba myth. Fast forward to less than a year later, and this show has taken on a life of its own. Led by April and Christina and including many of the artists involved in our 2018 workshop, Bathsheba’s Psalms will be returning for its world premiere production at The Tank this April. We cannot wait to see how this play has continued to grow after its time with Irons in the Fire. We’ll be there on April 5 and hope to see you at the theatre!

Sexy. Irreverant. Holy. Bathshebas voice, celebrated, sung at last. A revelry of sensuality & snark! And fruit, obviously!
